DARLA MAE GILLESPIE

Darla Mae Gillespie, beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother, went to be with Jesus on Friday, August 4, 2017. Darla was born May 16, 1941 to Emelia Buselatto in Wilburton, Okla. She grew up in Wilburton, Okla and Chicago Ill.

Darla met her soulmate Herb Gillespie in 1955. They married on August 16, 1958 in Chicago, Ill. Soon they started a family and moved to Phoenix, Ariz. In 1969, they moved their family to Bullhead City, Ariz.

Darla worked as a cashier at Best Buy Market. She was the Voice of the Mesa for the Mohave Daily News in the 1970s. She was also a member of the Eastern Star. Herb and Darla opened Herb’s Market on the Mesa in 1970. Through Herb’s Market she made lifelong friends.

Darla never met a stranger. She only saw the good in people. She gave her time to what was important and taught her kids, grandkids and great-grandkids how to sew, cook, play games and love each other by her example.

Darla is survived by her husband, Herb; her children Kathy and Ernie Mejia, Kevin and Gina Gillespie, Marty and Sheila Gillespie and Dawn Gillespie; 17 grandchildren; and 36 great grandchildren.

A celebration of her life will be held at 1 PM Saturday, August 12, 2017 at the Mohave Shrine Club. All of her family and friends are welcome.
