Ira Lee Sims, age 93, of Bullhead City, Arizona passed away peacefully on July 21, 2020, at her home with her family by her side. She was born August 29, 1929, in Baton Rouge, Louisiana to Nelson and Pearl Branch.
Life’s journey sent her to Los Angeles, California on October 31, 1960, where she thrived. Ira attended Heavenly Vision Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Dr. Joseph Lee Jr, where she served as president of the Senior Ushers for over 50 years. She was a member of the Mothers Board, overseeing the church. She worked several jobs including Dora’s Café, Beverly West in Belair Estates, and retiring as a nurse for In-Home Supportive Services for Los Angeles County.
Ira was always meeting people with an open heart. She was loving to a fault – always giving of herself. She enjoyed dancing, was a great cook, always entertaining family and friends. Ira had a great sense of humor. You could ask her how old she was and she would always reply that she was 45- always! She loved Jesus and claimed that he was her favorite author.
Ira was preceded in death by her parents; beloved husband, Albert Sims Sr.; and her precious daughter, Sherri Sims; Grandson, La Shawn Blackman; Granddaughter’s, NaNecha Hunt, Nakkia Hardison.
Ira is survived by her sons, Albert, Alphonso, and Robert; daughters, Sandra and Sheila; and a huge extended family of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of friends.
Memorial services are being held at Desert Lawn Funeral Home Chapel, 9250 S. Ranchero Lane, Mohave Valley, Arizona 86440 on August 7, 2020, at 10:00 am.
Ira touched many lives and will be truly missed by all those who were honored to know her and who loved her.
