Douglas Cary Pettit (1942-2020)

Douglas Cary (Dougy) Pettit died Tuesday, August 4, 2020, unexpectedly at age 78 in hospital from pneumonia only days after admission.

Dougy (aka: Cary to family) was born July 8, 1942 in Omaha, Nebraska to Rodney and Vivian Pettit. There he met his future wife, Karen McAllister while at a drive-in theatre and they began life’s journey together raising their children and starting a business. Cary decided to move his Longhorn Trucking business to Arizona in 1986 and soon settled in Fort Mohave, Arizona. Cary retired his trucks several years later and began working for McCormick Construction until his retirement. Cary always had a project going on at home which included remodeling his home, creating fish ponds and landscaping, and restoring a 1947 pickup. If he needed a break from things, you could find him cruising down the highway on his Harley Davidson with a solo seat. Cary seemed to have a sixth sense when it came to helping people. He was extremely understanding, listening to you. He always knew what you were going through and he did what he could to help you “figure it out”. Cary loved spending time with family and friends, especially his grandchildren.

Cary is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 51 years Karen; son Douglas Cary Pettit, Jr.; daughters Lorri Dilley and Ann Laing; and grandchildren Korina and Deizel.

A Memorial Service will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday 8/14/2020 at Desert Lawn Funeral Home & Cemetery, 9250 S. Ranchero Ln., Mohave Valley, AZ 86440. (928) 768-5959. Services will be followed by a Celebration of Life Reception at the funeral home.
