BENNIE C. HARRIS (1931-2022)
Bennie C. Harris, beloved dad and grandfather, entered into his sweet eternal rest at his home in Mohave Valley, Arizona, on Wednesday, April 27, 2022, at the age of 91, after a lengthy illness. Bennie was born in Laona, Wisconsin on January 3, 1931.
Bennie was employed by the Santa Fe Railroad as an Assistant Supervisor of Diesel Engines (ASDE) for 31 years until he retired in 1986. He also served in the United States Air Force from 1951 until his honorable discharge in 1955. Bennie met his bride of 68 years in San Bernardino, CA at a Halloween party and knew instantly Barbara would be his beloved wife.
Bennie loved his church and attended every Sunday. He taught Sunday School for over 35 years and only stopped when his health declined. He was an active member of the Christian Joy Church of the Nazarene, Ft. Mohave, AZ.
Bennie is preceded in death by his wife, Barbara, who passed away February 19, 2022. Family feels he missed her so much that he died of a broken heart. Bennie is survived by his two children, Glenda Schuler of Henderson, NV; and Jon Harris (Jessy) as well as two grandchildren, Kayla and Kelci Harris from Mohave Valley, AZ. He has three surviving sisters: Linda Norton, Ruth Springer, and Shirley Morris; and one brother, Donald Harris (Linda). Bennie is also preceded in death by his parents, Sylvester and Verona (LaPorte) Harris; brother Ernest Harris; sisters Betty Jones, Alice Jones, and Phyllis Kalinke as well as half-sister, Geneva Ryan.
Visitation will be held from 10 am to 11 am with services following on Thursday, May 12, 2022, at Desert Lawn Funeral Home. Interment will be following the service at Desert Lawn Memorial Gardens.
